Leadership Development

Course Description:

Leadership is an influence process. When you are a leader, you work with people to help them accomplish their goals and the goals of the organization. Successful leaders focus on results. They focus on the behaviors they expect, on whether the tasks get done right and on goal accomplishment.

Effective leaders focus on sustaining results over time by developing others’ commitment to the goal or task at hand. This one day workshop is designed to provide training on competencies that will help you to be the most successful and effective leader that you can be.

Key objectives:

  • Understand what it means to be a leader of people
  • Create a vision statement
  • Learn strategic planning
  • Identify the challenge of change and how to successfully implement change
  • Identify motivational techniques
  • Understand the importance of emotional intelligence in leaders
  • Apply leadership skills and techniques through a case study
  • Plan actions to transfer skills to the workplace
  • Optional: Add a day of training and enhance your leadership development with powerful psychometric tools!

Option 1: Leadership Development with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) assessment. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®), identifies personality types, and illustrates how to be a better communicator and leader based on your personality type and those of others.

Constructive Relationship Building, defined as caring, showing interest, fairness, and demonstrating understanding, is the key reason for leader effectiveness. Success and failure are primarily tied to relationships among team members, communications between leaders and team members. In contrast, Technical Ability ranks last in importance of leader effectiveness, based on the research by Roger R. Pearman, Ed.D.

Participants will take the MBTI® assessment online prior to the seminar for more productive use of class time. Building on information obtained from the MBTI®, the workshop will teach you the differences and similarities in personality types, and in doing so, you will learn how to interact and work more effectively. Emphasis is placed on successful decision-making, creating a productive work environment, determining work styles, increasing productivity, and enhancing overall team effectiveness.

Option 2: Leadership Development with the FIRO-B® interpersonal needs assessment. Designed to help participants understand interpersonal dynamics, the Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientations-Behavior (FIRO-B®) workshop builds awareness of potential conflict, maximizing the effectiveness of the business environment. Three dimensions of interpersonal relations – Inclusion, Control and Affection – explain most human interactions. This assessment measures how much interaction a person wants in each dimension.

Participants will take the FIRO-B® assessment online prior to the workshop for more productive use of class time. The FIRO-B® instrument increases your understanding of how you tend to behave toward others and how you want them to behave toward you. The FIRO-B® helps you to get a measurement of such vital information as:

  • Team role potential
  • Satisfaction/dissatisfaction with teams
  • Interpersonal orientation – working alone vs. working with others
  • Leadership strengths of individual members
  • Team chemistry – getting the right match
  • Working together through conflict
